If one part of a fence is going to fail, it's the gate. Everything else in a fence just stands there — the gate is the only piece that moves, and it moves hundreds of times a year while hanging off one side.
The most common cause of sag is simple geometry. A gate is a rectangle held up on one edge, so all its weight pulls down and outward on the hinge side. Without something resisting that pull diagonally, the rectangle slowly racks into a parallelogram. The bottom corner on the latch side drops, the gate starts dragging, and eventually it won't latch at all.
The second cause is the post. A hinge post carries the entire gate's weight as leverage. If it wasn't set deep enough or wasn't set in concrete, the gate doesn't sag so much as the post leans. You can rebuild the gate perfectly and it'll drop again in a season.
The third is hardware — undersized hinges, screws pulled loose from wood that has softened, or rust that has eaten into a latch until it no longer catches.
Bolt-on brace kits and turnbuckle cables are the usual retail fix. They can buy you time, but they're pulling against a joint that's already loose, and they need periodic re-tensioning. On a heavy or wide gate they rarely hold for long.
A welded steel frame solves the problem differently: instead of bracing a weak rectangle, the corners are fused so the rectangle can't rack in the first place. We fabricate the frame to your exact opening, weld the corners square, hang it on hinges sized to the real weight, then grind and coat the welds so Florida humidity doesn't start rust at the joint.
This matters most on wide drive gates and rolling gates, where the span is long enough that any flex becomes visible sag. It's also why we can build to openings that no stock gate fits — masonry columns, uneven grade, or non-standard widths.
