1. Know exactly where your property line is. Do not assume the old fence was on it. We've seen fences sitting a foot or more inside a lot, and we've seen them over the line into a neighbor's. If there's any doubt, check your survey before we quote. Moving a finished fence is far more expensive than getting the line right up front.
2. Check whether your job needs a permit. Municipalities across Miami-Dade and Broward generally require a permit for new fence installation, and requirements vary between cities. Verify with your local building department for your specific address — it's a short call that avoids a stop-work order.
3. If you have a pool, the fence is a safety barrier, not just a fence. Florida sets specific requirements for barrier height and for gates, which must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch placed out of a small child's reach. Confirm the current requirements with your building department, and tell us up front that a pool is involved so we build to them from the start.
4. Get HOA approval in writing before we order material. Associations in Weston, Miramar, Coral Springs, and most newer developments specify material, style, height, and color. Approval usually takes days to weeks, so start it early. Send us the approved spec and we'll match it exactly.
5. Ask how deep the posts go and whether they're set in concrete. This is the question that separates a fence that survives storm season from one that doesn't, and it's the easiest place for a crew to cut corners — because once the fence is up, nobody can see it.
